Summer is here! It’s time for swimming, spending time on the beach, driving with the top down, enjoying weekends on the boat and playing outside with the kids. Being outside during this beautiful season is something we can all relate to. On the downside, the heat and sun rays can be quite damaging. This is why it is always recommended to use the appropriate SPF on our skin when we plan to be outdoors. But what about our hair? What is protecting it?
Our hair isn’t just damaged from chemicals and heat tools, it is also prone to damage from environmental factors. This can come from the sun’s UV rays, the wind or from swimming in a chlorinated pool. Knowing these risks, let’s talk about some of the ways that OLAPLEX can help protect and repair you and your clients hair this summer.
Protect pre-swim with OLAPLEX No. 3 (or No. 2 for Pros!)
Did you know that before taking a dip in the pool that you can apply Olaplex to protect your hair from harsh chemicals? One of my most favorite things to do before jumping in the pool is to dampen my hair and apply Olaplex No. 2 liberally. Of course No. 2 is only for professional use, so I recommend my clients utilize No. 3 for this. Using Olaplex this way not only provides a treatment, but also helps to act as a barrier against the harsh chemicals that could be absorbed by your hair in the water. Once you’ve finished your swim, hop in the shower, shampoo and deep condition. *Note that if you or your clients are a frequent swimmer or spend a lot of time in chlorinated water you should perform a mineral removal treatment during the summer months, followed by an Olaplex Stand Alone Treatment, and a deep conditioning treatment. This will ensure that the hair remains healthy, strong, and free of any type of buildup.
OLAPLEX…for wind and UV protection?
Maybe swimming is not your thing. Perhaps you like to feel the wind in your hair? Driving with the top down. Perhaps in a convertible? Jeep? Motorcycle? So fun! But wind and UV rays can cause all types of problems from tangles and mats to straight up damage to the cuticle and bonds in the hair.
Clients should use Olaplex No. 3 at home at least once a week. I recommend a treatment the night before any outdoor activities that could potentially cause damage. Make sure to shampoo and condition with Olaplex No. 4 and No. 5 for best results.
Then, I recommend using Olaplex No. 6 and No. 7 when styling. This is going to help protect your hair from the wind AND those harmful sun rays. I also recommend braiding the hair to further prevent tangles and matting. It doesn’t hurt that Olaplex No. 6 and No. 7 fit perfectly in a purse for a quick touch ups throughout the day! Uh-oh….Does your client have summer damage?
So what do you do if your client comes in with dry, damaged hair? Perhaps they have that dreaded tinge of “green” from swimming. Even worse, they’ve attempted some DIY methods to try and remove it and have caused even more dryness and damage. Have no fear, we have the perfect solution.
- Demineralization treatment- follow the manufacturers instructions. This will remove the mineral buildup from the hair leaving you a clean slate. A personal favorite is Malibu C Crystal Gel.
- Olaplex Stand Alone Treatment- if the hair is extremely damaged you can do 2-3 of these back to back.
Fun fact- you can use Olaplex as often as desired. It cannot be overused.
- Shampoo with Olaplex No. 4
- Assess the hair. It will definitely need moisture, but might need protein, too. Proceed with the appropriate deep conditioning and protein treatments based on your assessment.
- Style with Olaplex No. 6 and No. 7.
- Send your client home with the Olaplex retail line- and give them directions on how to use it!
That’s it! Easy peasy! Olaplex can repair and protect the hair from all types of damage and environmental damage is no different. So grab your trusty OLAPLEX, get out there and make some awesome summer memories.
